Defining Backgrounds
A simple background is a background that adds atmosphere but does not affect the composition. It is done after the process of drawing the character(s). It could hypothetically be removed and not affect the piece that much.
A complex background affects composition and is heavily planned into the work. The character is immersed; removal of the background would damage the piece.
A shape, gradient, or pattern does not charge extra. This can be requested or removed at no cost.
